I wear a ring that I hand stamped. It says "Choose Joy". I never take it off. It reminds me that JOY is truly a CHOICE on a daily basis. Some days it is hard to Choose Joy. We can all relate to the fact that Life is a rollercoaster of up and downs, joys and struggles, amazing moments and defeating ones. When I am struggling, typically I will call my sister or a friend that knows me, that I trust and loves me unconditionally no matter what.
Ultimately, I go to GOD. GOD knows me, my heart and what I am struggling with. I know he wants what is best for me. Our faith walk is personal. It is a journey. Sometimes we are stronger in our faith, sometimes we are weaker. It is different for everyone. I try to never judge someone because you have never walked in their shoes.
We deal with illness, death, divorce, child challenges, depression, loneliness, job loss and more. Some people deal with moreYou don't know what has happened in someones day or more importantly their life. Sometimes we need some support, guidance and just need a listening ear. Friends and family that we can count on is such a blessing, I don't know what I would do or would have done without these amazing people in my life.
God's unconditional love is here for us. I have a daily devotional that I open every morning with my coffee. Reading it definitely helps to start the day with a uplifting passage or scripture to guide my day and help it to start in a positive way.
Choosing joy on a daily basis with God at the center involves integrating your faith into your everyday life in meaningful ways. Here are some practical steps to help you cultivate a joyful mindset.
1. Start Your Day with Prayer:
Begin each day by connecting with God through prayer. Ask for His guidance, strength, and a heart full of gratitude. This sets a positive tone for the day and aligns your focus with His will.
2. Read Scripture:
Spend time reading and reflecting on Bible verses that inspire joy and hope. Passages like Philippians 4:4 ("Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.") can be uplifting and remind you of God's promises.
3. Practice Gratitude:
Keep a gratitude journal to note things you are thankful for each day. Recognizing and appreciating God's blessings can shift your perspective and increase your sense of joy.
4. Serve Others:
Find opportunities to serve those around you. Acts of kindness and service not only help others but can also bring a deep sense of fulfillment and joy, knowing you are living out God's love. Volunteering at a local church or community in need always welcome.
5. Stay Connected with a Faith Community:
Engage with a supportive faith community. Sharing experiences, worshiping together, and receiving encouragement from others can enhance your joy and help you stay centered in your faith.
6. Seek Joy in the Ordinary:
Look for moments of joy in everyday activities. Whether it’s enjoying a meal, appreciating nature, or spending time with loved ones, recognize these moments as gifts from God.
7. Practice Forgiveness:
Let go of grudges and practice forgiveness. Holding onto negative feelings can hinder your ability to experience joy. Embracing forgiveness can free you and help you maintain a joyful heart. This one can be hard depending on your situation. Just keep trying. I am.
8. Trust in God's Plan:
Remember that joy is not about having a trouble-free life but about trusting in God’s plan through all circumstances. Believing that God is in control can provide a deep-seated joy, even during challenging times.
9. Engage in Worship and Praise:
Regularly worship and praising God can uplift your spirit and reinforce your joy.
10. Reflect on God’s Faithfulness:
Regularly remind yourself of how God has been faithful in your life. Reflecting on past experiences where you’ve seen His hand can encourage you and fill you with joy.
By intentionally incorporating these practices into your daily routine, you can nurture a joy that comes from having God at the center of your life.
